The flavor is slightly different, but it doesn't matter, Curry is good no matter what you do to it!!!carriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10930898660451775217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36315316.post-34195640293301878722008-04-08T03:52:00.000-07:002008-04-08T03:52:00.000-07:00Dalai Mama - I know, the BBQ sauce is so good! And it doesn't really call for anything that I don't usually have in my cupboards.

Re: Fish sauce - I've read in cookbooks (I think Didi Emmons's) that you should replace fish sauce with salt, not soy sauce (or tamari/shoyu/braggs) because those flavors would overpower the dish in a lot of cases. It's not a 1:1 ratio though - I think she has a recipe that calls for maybe 2 T fish sauce and she has you replace it with maybe 1-2 tsp of salt? Probably just leave the sauce out and then salt to taste. :)

I'm really missing the 86 degrees (although it was 71 here in SE Michigan yesterday!)Chessahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05440188511687484278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36315316.post-32536427633999702372008-04-07T18:23:00.000-07:002008-04-07T18:23:00.000-07:0086 degrees? Sounds like you had a nice trip.

You know, recently I've been wondering what a good substitute for fish sauce would be. I have a recipe I want to make that calls for it. I wonder if I could just leave it out completely and not lose lots of flavor?

After making the Backyard BBQ Sauce, I'll definitely never buy bottled BBQ again! I will try it next time, thanks for that tip.

And Jen and Carrie: Yes! I am going to the meatout, I'm totally looking forward to seeing Colleen speak and trying out some tasty treats. Hope to see you there, Jen!

Oh, and Carrie, re: sweet potatoes, I forgot to put this in the post, but if the potatoes need a little liquid, orange juice is the perfect thing to use! And since you're not using the almond butter, you might want to add a pinch more of cinnamon and nutmeg. Sometimes I add a drizzle of maple syrup if I'm in the mood. It's one of those "recipes" that are great for variations.Chessahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05440188511687484278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36315316.post-78372346958703284372008-04-03T19:52:00.000-07:002008-04-03T19:52:00.000-07:00That blueberry coffee cake looks SO good! Mine always melts very well, and my kids love it. I use a very small hole grater to grate it before sprinkling it on the pizza, maybe that helps is melt.

The breakfast sweet potatoes sound awesome. I'm going to make those soon (sans the almond butter). We have pancakes every Sunday morning, and I feel so guilty for serving such an "unhealthy" breakfast.....it'll make me feel better if we have sweet potatoes too!!carriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10930898660451775217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36315316.post-36727414466640458702008-04-03T16:36:00.000-07:002008-04-03T16:36:00.000-07:00man i am really craving pizza now~man i am really craving pizza now~Lindsay (Happy Herbivore)https://www.blogger.com/profile/11254775369646541070noreply@blogger.com
