7 Randoms Meme Time!

So here is the first, most neglected meme I was tagged for by Bethany over at Spotted Devil Cat and His Vegan Assistant...Because who doesn't love random!?

  1. Link the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
  2. Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself.
  3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links.
  4. Let each person know that they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

1. I have lived in most regions of the U.S. - I was born in the South in Winston-Salem, NC. I moved to the NE to NH when I was 4 and lived in two towns there until I graduated high school. I moved to the NW for college in Oregon, lived in the SW for a summer in Tucson, AZ (who moves to AZ in the summer?!?), and then was banished to the Midwest for 4 years in MI. So, at least all four corners of the country and one spot in the middle.

2. I'm an only child. I share well with others and I'm not totally selfish. It can happen.

3. I had 5 wisdom teeth, they've all been removed. Yep, I had an excess of wisdom.

4. I'm really really good at replicating animal noises. I've had doves want to mate with me in the pet store because of my cooing (seriously) and I fully engage squirrels in conversation. One of our friends dubbed me a "mimic." Sounds like a Hero Superpower! I'll take it.

5. I'm a feminist who defaults to traditional gender roles accidentally. Take out the trash!?!? That's so not my job. Cooking? You bet, love it. What can I say.

6. I think I've mentioned this before, but I'm kind of a science fiction geek. I've even been to two conventions (both last year in MI). The first was SO FUN and the second was weak. It's actually very refreshing to be surrounded by mass amounts of nerd energy.

7. My husband and I are very seriously considering Unschooling our son. We were both straight-A students who loved school, but I think it taught us both some really bad habits that we'd like to avoid. Couple this with the fact that teachers are pretty much forced to teach to a standardized test nowadays AND the fact that my kid is a super kinesthetic learner and I just think this is a recipe for disaster. So unschooling, here we come!

I'm too lazy right now to tag people so I kind of fail this meme. So let me say this: everyone loves talking about themselves. Recognize this fact right now and react accordingly by posting some random stuff about yourselves. Just do it. You know you want to. :)

another fun meme! hooray!

i swear, Chessa - we must be sisters or something. not only am i also a "feminist who defaults to traditional gender roles accidentally" (i cook, clean, knit, etc. and dan mows the lawn, fixes shit, etc.) - but i can coo like a mofo, too! i grew up in the country and spent a lot of time listening to crows and morning doves. they're both pretty darn hard to mock, and that's rock'n that you can coo, too! ahahahahaa! i love it! and i'm glad i'm not the only one! :D

I can't wait to hear about your adventures in unschooling! I'm sort of leaning that way now, but still undecided for the future.

Oh...and another feminist accidentally defaulting toward traditional gender roles here...but I definitely don't do the cleaning house thing...perhaps that's my rebellion, lol!

jessy - I think we ARE sisters separated at birth! That is soooo funny that you coo! I don't think I've ever met a fellow coo-er. That's so awesome!

Jen - I so don't do the cleaning either!!! At least not by myself.

Yeah, I'm obsessively researching unschooling right now in response to being UNBELIEVABLY BORED at home with a toddler at the moment. Winter is not being kind to us, not at all. I would love to hear any thoughts/crafty ideas you might have for a 2 1/2 year old! :D Hope you are well, mama.

It sucks that you're sick again. I've had that happen before. grumble grumble.

I love your random facts!

I grew up in VT and ME, right next door.

I'm the sort of opposite of you. I never had any wisdom teeth come in. So no yucky operation. I guess my brain absorbed all the extra wisdom. not.

I'm hoping they get rid of the WASL. I'm glad the old head of EDU for WA was voted out. yay!

School is important for the socialization aspect, though the positive opportunity is often lost because teachers don't have the time/skills to guide that experience properly - though I don't blame the teachers because many of us also lack that guiding skill.

here is a scary snow related pic. good reason to stay home...

Number 2 - me too! I've had too many people still raise it in discussions as an adult to count, but yup, it's true.

Number 3 - cracked me up! I'd love to hear some of your sounds - and I never knew squirrels made noises, lol.

I would LOVE to hear your animal noises. I have tried to make them myself and do more to scare the animals off than to attract them. I'm sure it is amusing to hear me make the noises though.

And I love your feminist/traditional gender roles. That is our house too - well, except that Brett does the laundry and the dishes. ;-)

hey Chessa,

I have signed up for the following PCC classes so far. I have a couple more I'm asking questions on. Dawnula isn't teaching a vegan class this time around. It is inches away from being vegan though. oh well.

I either signed up for issaquah or redmond.

Artisan sourdough bread

soup simplifies your life (same teacher as last time, different soups)

Beans, Grains and More

Romancing the Green: Sea Greens

Chinese Stir-fry Basics

I'm asking Q's about the indian class. I want to know if the chai and naan will be vegan. I will be a sad puppy if I can't haven any :( If not, I might take it and bring my own.

I took Louise's class the last time she was here. I'm going to take it, but I need to find out how other plans will turn out. If I can't take it on the eastside, I might just take it in west seattle.

I'm trying to find out if the persia class uses honey for the baklava. I'm hoping it used agave or a simple sugar syrup. Omid is a great teacher.

Chessa,
I too am a "feminist who defaults to traditional gender roles accidentally". It's SO nice to find others. I love the cleaning, preparing food (I'm a raw vegan), hosting parties, and the laundry...I'm not yet a mom, but I've been a mom-in-training for about 26 years (I'm 31).
Oh, and I'm an AVID (some would say aggressive) unschooling supporter (as opposed to the usual homeschooling).
